Title: The Sims 2: University : Prima's Official Strategy Guide Publisher: Prima Games Authors: GREG KRAMER Rating: 1/5 What a total disappointment. It's too bad that Prima thinks that they can put about 100 pages of University information together with 300 pages of a repeat of the Sims2 guide and expect us to pay $19.99 for it. This is one comsumer who's walking away. I have the Sims2 guide already, I'm not forking out more for a piddly amount of information on the new expansion pack. I'll spend the time searching the fan sites for what I need to know. And you can bet I let all my Sim buds know- don't bother with this book UNLESS you don't already have the Sims2 guide. If Prima wises up and prints guides of just the expansion packs- I'll be the first to buy. Otherwise, forget it.

Title: The Power of Events: An Introduction to Complex Event Processing in Distributed Enterprise Systems Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Authors: David Luckham Rating: 4/5 If you are like me and you are frustrated after picking up an IT book and only getting superficial platitudes rather than keen insights, then you may be pleasantly surprised by this book because it really reveals, as the title states, the "Power of Events." The book starts off establishing the author's grounding in Enterprise Architectures (and their shortcomings), and then proceeds to build an intuitive foundation to seduce the reader into the world of events that they may not have realized was so much a part of distributed systems. While the formal notation used in the book may appear daunting, it is easily mastered and the subtle rules and mechanism are exposed through many thoughtful examples. I will say the second half of the book is a slower read than the 1st part, but the book should leave you with some confidence that there really are some breakthroughs in software technology that will have a positive impact on distributed IT System quality and the complex event processing shows that potential.

Title: Tradings Systems That Work: Building and Evaluating Effective Trading Systems Publisher: McGraw-Hill Authors: Thomas Stridsman Rating: 5/5 Stridsman's work reads like a lab book recollection of his experimentations rather than a systematic study of creating profitable trading systems. The text is repetitive, and filled with illogical analogies and examples. His conclusions are based on some dubious suppositions -- he seems to lack a strong grasp of the statistical analysis he employs. Among the benefits of the book are Stridsman's adherence to standard deviation in assessing system risk and his use of percentage measurements rather than absolute dollar values. This book could be 75% shorter and still contain all the worthwhile information. I would recommend Conway and Behle's "Professional Stock Trading" as a much clearer approach to creating trading systems.
