Title: Fundamentals of Digital Logic with VHDL Design with CD-ROM Publisher: McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math Authors: Stephen Brown, Zvonko Vranesic Rating: 4/5 This introductory book in digital logic certainly did its job. It begins with simple examples before discussing harder material in a clear and concise manner. As for the VHDL component, though you will not become a master at VHDL by simply reading this book, it certainly gives you a good first experience with it. As a reference book it's loaded with practical examples.

Title: Applied Microsoft .NET Framework Programming Publisher: Microsoft Press Authors: Jeffrey Richter Rating: 5/5 I wouldn't exactly call this book an introductory level look into .Net. In fact, I'd recommend that you already be familiar with most of the core concepts of .Net before you try reading it. As a consultant to the .Net development staff, Jeff gives the details of .Net like very few other people can. Some parts of the book go well beyond what a "normal" programmer would attempt to do (like create unmanaged windows handles), but the examples are clear as to how it works and what best practices should be followed. It's by far the best .Net book I've read so far. Someone asked if they could borrow it now that I'm finished with mine and I told them to go buy their own. It's a great piece of reference material and the binding is well worn already from reading and referencing during my projects. Well done, Jeff. Well done.

Title: Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content Publisher: New Riders Press Authors: Biz Stone Rating: 2/5 The two stars are because there is information in the book, not at all bad. The information, that is. I'm sure many members of the beginner audience would enjoy the book. But here's why I'll never read it: I can't tolerate the snarky 'tude of the dude who wrote it. Hey "Biz", you're a child; hey "genius", you really managed to turn off those older than you, and fast too. There's enough of this kind of noise in the world of guidebooks. Aspiring blogger, if you're looking for information to get you started, you really ought to keep on looking.

Title: Digital Lighting & Rendering Publisher: New Riders Press Authors: Jeremy Birn Rating: 5/5 BRILLIANT! I bought your video tape called "The Secrets of Softimage" a couple of years ago and it was great. Thankyou Jeremy for taking the time to write a book that delivers what it promises unlike many of the books on 3D out there. You should be comended on your ability to provide detailed information in a way that does'nt make you want to pull your hair out. Please write more books about modeling and setting up characters especially in Maya, thankyou.
