Title: Software Project Survival Guide Publisher: Microsoft Press Authors: Steve C McConnell Rating: 4/5 This book was a joy to read and it provided very good examples and reasoning for doing certain tasks and tracking certain events. During the time my company was going through some reatructuring I deciced to use this book as a guide and see how things go. It went well. Many of the planning and tracking tips were very useful. The title suites it. It's a manual for survival. Not the definative book to get you through your PMP exam, but it will make things more organized for your day to day activities.

Title: Python Essential Reference (2nd Edition) Publisher: Sams Authors: David Beazley Rating: 5/5 I always have it within easy reach whenever I work with Python. It is not a tutorial like "The Python Visual QuickStart Guide", and not a book about solving specific problems in Python, like "The Python Cookbook". The value of the book derives from the fact that it is a relatively small book that nevertheless manages to be a comprehensive guide to Python. Some of my co-workers prefer to use the voluminous "Python: The Complete Reference", as their Python manual, but I just don't have time to read such a big book.

Title: Hacker's Delight Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Authors: Henry S. Warren Jr. Rating: 5/5 Anyone can reverse the bits in a byte, so the LSB is in the MSB position etc., using a while loop. Only thing is, there's a quicker way using multiplication, and that way is in this book. Lots of embedded and kernel developers twiddle bits for a living. This book describes so many techniques that I've used or needed. I wish I'd been handed this book at the beginning of my career instead of in the middle. You won't use this book every day, but every day you use it will save you a week, or more importantly a few desparately needed microseconds. It's intensely practical, not theoretical. It can be a little hard to find what you're looking for here, but mostly because it's so densely packed. It's way too nerdy for the merely curious, but quite the indispensible reference for the seasoned bit-pusher.

Title: MCAD/MCSD Training Guide (70-320): Developing XML Web Services and Server Components with Visual C# .NET and the .NET Framework Publisher: Que Authors: Amit Kalani, Priti Kalani Rating: 5/5 This book, for just being released, was very well put together. It was divided into the various sections of the 70-320 test, giving you enough information about the current topic. It didn't go more in-depth as if I had hoped it would, but it does prepare you for the exam. I only found a few grammatical & code errors, but overall, it was a well edited book.
