Title: Database Design for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Relational Database Design, Second Edition Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Authors: Michael J. Hernandez Rating: 2/5 This is the most helpful book I have ever read in sorting out the complexities of relational database design. Most books tell you how to use the software but not the basics of design. I was able to put together a fairly complex database - and my relationships work - just by using this book!

Title: ColdFusion MX Web Application Construction Kit, Fifth Edition Publisher: Macromedia Press Authors: Ben Forta, Nate Weiss, Leon Chalnick, Angela C. Buraglia Rating: 5/5 This is the third edition of the "Web Construction Kit" I have purchased (I also have copies covering CF3.0 and CF4.5). The way Ben (and Nate) lay out real-world examples helps visualize the concepts. Many of the examples in the book not only show you how to use a particular tag, but also give additional notes to enhance performance. I am particularly impressed with the attention they give to the application.cfm file. The previous versions of this book never seemed to fully explain the many uses for the file. So far the chapters on session scope and security have been a great help, but I am also looking forward to delving into the charts chapter. I have yet to fully read this book, but I am impressed with the fact that almost 300 pages is devoted to using "Client-side" Java within CFMX. For anyone wanting to learn CFMX I suggest getting this book. I also own "Inside Coldfusion MX" and Que's "ColdFusion MX Development" and while I like both books, they lack the depth in which Ben goes into with his book.

Title: The C++ Programming Language (Special 3rd Edition) Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional Authors: Bjarne Stroustrup Rating: 3/5 This book needs two ratings, one for C++ experts (a 10) and one for beginners (1). If you are starting with C++, get another book. If you know C++, this IS the reference. I find that the book has everything, but it is not organized for beginners. The examples are mostely code snippets and are not complete. The index is poor and not extensive enough.
