While the today's best security is tomorrow's easy hack, the philosophy is not going to change for securing communications. It shows through examples that being reasonably paranoid and careful, can make your communications reasonably secure, and that spending a lot of money and being unreasonably paranoid, can also make your communications reasonably secure unless someone who needs the communication keeps the key in the top drawer of their desk where the cleaning lady can find it. Because you can read the book, this book will do more for computer security than all the books you drag to the office that remain on the shelf. Buy it, read it, and enjoy it.

Title: QED: The Strange Theory of Light and Matter Publisher: Princeton University Press Authors: Richard Phillips Feynman Rating: 5/5 This is the best book for the layman on the difficult subject of quantum mechanics. I've read much more technical works on the subject, but none of them can match Feynman's clear and concise explanations of the fascinating and paradoxical world of quantum mechanics. Feynman had a gift for explaining difficult physics concepts to the non-physicist, and this book is perhaps the best example of his ability to do this. Using primarily spatial concepts, visualizations, and diagrams rather than advanced math, Feynman clearly illustrates and explains many of the fundamental aspects of QED in a way that the non-specialist can grasp. A true classic in the field, and one that hasn't been equalled since in its clear and concise treatment of the subject. All in all, a great book from both a great physicist and great teacher.

Schwartz, Tom Phoenix Rating: 5/5 This book is not for a beginner to programming, you may want a c/C++ background, it covers Perl, ON A UNIX SYSTEM, gives good introductions, and takes a while to read, you should spend at least 1-2 hours on each chapter. lots of working examples.

Title: TCP/IP Network Administration (3rd Edition; O'Reilly Networking) Publisher: O'Reilly Authors: Craig Hunt Rating: 5/5 Maintaining any type of computer network is a challenge (to say the least) and books like this one are a welcome addition to any sys admin's library. Above the book's title on the cover are the words "Help for UNIX System Administrators" and that's precisely what this book is. Starting off with a "primer" on TCP/IP and how data moves around on a TCP/IP network gives anyone new to TCP/IP a general idea of how it all works. There are also chapters on configuring your interface (along with general info on installing PPP & SLIP), routing, network servers, and sendmail, all important parts of a TCP/IP system. Near the book's end, the topics of troubleshooting and network security are also addressed. All the O'Reilly books I have read always have thorough descriptions of the their topics and prove to be excellent sources of information. This book is no exception. If you maintain (or will be maintaining) this type of network, you need this book
