Title: Advanced Windows (Advanced Windows) Publisher: Microsoft Press Authors: Jeffrey Richter Rating: 5/5 This is a very good book on advanced win32 topics such as threading. I found the book very readable, however, I would not recommend this book to someone who does not know how to write windows programs in C. This book is for people ready to take the next step. It is a great companion to the Platform SDK documentation. I felt I had to write this review to counter the negative reviews recently posted. Please check out all of the reviews and keep in mind that bad books do not make it to a third edition.

Title: Web Standards Solutions: The Markup and Style Handbook (Pioneering Series) Publisher: Friends of ED Authors: Dan Cederholm Rating: 5/5 Just finished reading Dan's book. It was a breath of fresh air to read a book that is clear, consistent and to the point. No BS, ever! It was impressive how Dan takes the reader logically through CSS hurdles, step by step, and with economy of words. If you know XHTML markup and basic CSS, then you can expect to learn the following:1. The right choice of tag for a particular situation2. Different ways of styling the tags= Standards compliance and Accessibility being the central theme 3. CSS Layout Techniques (ex: 3-col to 2-col switching using a single stylesheet) = Box Model problem with IE/Win fully explained4. Why using tables DOES make sense in some cases5. Text to Image Replacement techniques=Some advances CSS techniques6. A List of extremely useful websites to watch forWhile this is not a book for a begineer starting out on CSS/XHTML, this is a MUST READ for every web-designer with a desire to get CSS right from get go. This is a book well worth every cent. Thanks to Dan for writing such a useful book and I am already looking forward to his next one. Dan's website is at www.simplebits.com

Title: Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Professional Step-By- Step. Publisher: Microsoft Press Authors: Michael Halvorson Rating: 4/5 This book is an excellent coverage of the basics of VB6.0. As with anything you may need to buy more than 1 intro book on Visual Basic. Another good one to complement this one is Beginning Visual Basic 6 by Peter Wright. I just wish I could find one I like to move on from here. I'm looking but not finding. If this book had gone into a little more depth in ADO I would have given it 5 Stars.

Title: Dreamweaver 4 Bible Publisher: Wiley Authors: Joseph W. Lowery, Kevin Lynch Rating: 4/5 This book tries to be all things to all people and as such it includes basic stuff and quite advanced stuff. There's basic info about HTML (ie what's a tag) which I skipped straight over but which a beginner would find useful (although there's plenty of other books that cover this material). For the more advanced user there's some great info on how to make your own Dreamweaver extensions, cross-browser compatibility issues, and incorporating the Beatnik plug-in into your pages to make interesting sound effects. The accompanying CD-ROM is full of useful Dreamweaver extensions (although you could have downloaded these from various websites), as well as trial versions of Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash. Also included is the complete text of the book in PDF format.
