Title: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Unleashed (2nd Edition) Publisher: Sams Authors: Ray Rankins, Paul Jensen, Paul Bertucci Rating: 5/5 I have found this book to be a great resource for development, administration, and performance tuning for SQL Server. I have been working with databases for almost 10 years and with SQL Server for over 5 years. I find myself frequently referring to this book and getting useful information. I would highly recommend it for both intermediate and advanced users.

Title: Head First Design Patterns Publisher: O'Reilly Authors: Elisabeth Freeman, Eric Freeman, Bert Bates, Kathy Sierra Rating: 5/5 Since design patterns are about ways of organizing code in order to make it easier to understand and to manage, it should not be all that strange that the authors are also intersted in how to organize a book along the same principles. Still I was a bit skeptical. This is the first book that I have seen in the Head First series. I have seen other books with cute graphics and came away disappointed because I felt I was being talked down to or because I thought the authors were not very knowledgeable. I am happy to report that my fears were not realized. As the authors make clear in the introduction, they put a lot of work into making this book accessible. They succeeded immensely. It is also clear that they know whereof they speak with regard to the material covered. I have had trouble getting through the dry material on design patterns in other books. This book was a real eye opener. I higly recommend it to others who are having trouble understanding patterns. I can now see what all the fuss has been about and why it is so important for programmers to understand this material.

Title: HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fifth Edition Publisher: Peachpit Press Authors: Elizabeth Castro Rating: 5/5 Ms. Castro provides exactly the right level of detail for learning HTML and the examples are well-chosen and clearly presented. Her writing style incorporates a touch of humor, which is also nice. Finally, the book is very generous in its support for both Mac vs. Windows as well as Netscape vs. Explorer users and the brief critical reviews of common HTML and image-editing tools seems equally fair.

Title: Network+ Exam Cram 2 (Exam Cram N10-002) Publisher: Que Authors: Mike Harwood, Ed Tittel Rating: 5/5 If you are an experienced technician this is the book for you. It gets right to the point in covering the objectives of the exam. I passed my exam this weekend. If you are new to the field I suggest you read another Network+ book with greater detail before you get the exam cram. Good luck!
