Title: Linux Device Drivers, 3rd Edition Publisher: O'Reilly Authors: Jonathan Corbet, Alessandro Rubini, Greg Kroah-Hartman Rating: 4/5 "Linux Device Drivers" is of tremendous value to anyone writing, well, Linux device drivers. It explains very well the software interface between your driver and the OS. It presuposes a working knowlege of Unix OS concepts generally, but requires no familiarity with the internals of the Linux kernel. The programming specifics are adressed heavily: This is more a programming book than a textbook. All of the concepts are supported with demonstration code, and the complete source for all the modules discussed is available by ftp. The book also explains the hardware interaction aspects less well, but still suficiently. Some of this is an unavoidable consequence of the author's interest in cross-platform aplicability. I, for one, would have preferred more information. All told, this is a wonderfull book, and I recommend it to anyone wishing to write drivers or intersted in how they are implemented.

Title: Professional Active Server Pages 3.0 (Programmer to Programmer) Publisher: Peer Information Authors: Alex Homer, David Sussman, Brian Francis, George Reilly, Dino Esposito, Craig McQueen, Simon Robinson, Richard Anderson, Andrea Chiarelli, Chris Blexrud, Bill Kropog, John Schenken, Matthew Gibbs, Dean Sonderegger, Dan Denault Rating: 5/5 Either you like books from Wrox Press or you don't. If you do, then you will most likely really like this one. There are about 15 authors credited so the styles from chapter-to-chapter vary, but the content is always helpful. The book essentially covers every topic related to developing a Microsoft-based web application. Obviously the coverage can not be too deep if it is to be so broad, but there is just enough detail and plenty of clear examples to help the budding web developer along. My only reservation is the coverage of C++ COM components. The section is much too short to really give this very dense topic its due (Essential COM by Don Box or one of the other Wrox books on COM are better suited). Other than that it is an excellent introduction to the Microsoft way of web applications and a useful reference to boot.

Title: HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fifth Edition Publisher: Peachpit Press Authors: Elizabeth Castro Rating: 5/5 Especially I like the index - she lists each tag with corresponding sub-tags, eg. the <table> lists all of the attributes which would fall within this tag. I am using this all the time for reference as I pursue html for web design. My wife's cousin recommended this book, and it was a great call.

Title: Creating Web Pages for Dummies, Sixth Edition Publisher: For Dummies Authors: Bud E. Smith, Arthur Bebak, Bud Bud Smith, Arthur Bebak Rating: 5/5 I was reading the reviews and one mentioned that because most of the links were bed for Geocities, you shouldn't get it. Well, only some of the links go to Geocities, a lot go to different sites. Plus, this book teachs you so much so easily.
