Kickstart your PHP & MySQL website development

Coming from a VB, ASP and SQL Server background, I found this book to be very well laid out, extremely informative and easy to ramp up on PHP and MySQL.
I've 'inherited' a live ecommerce website which was written in php and mysql. My 'client' has been complaining about how terrible the performance is, how its not responsive, etc... Now using this book as my 'guide' I can clearly see that the site wasn't put together very well.
I've been asked to rewrite the site, and so as I'm developing website version 2 the existing site will run in maintenance mode, but now looking at the code and referring back to the book, me thinks with a bit of refactoring of this site, my client could keep using this site for at least another year...
Anyways I thought y'all might be interested to hear a different (though maybe off-topic) review.
Overall this book is helping me get my job done, I'm learning alot about PHP and MySQL (its a shame that MySQL doesn't have stored procedures... yet)

Title: Suikoden(R) IV Official Strategy Guide

This guide is a complete waste of money

On the up side it's got lots of pretty, out of focus pictures and it's 223 pages long. If you are worried about spoilers you won't find any here. It's just a straight walk through. With a few pages on the mini games an a few on game basics. It also has lists of items, not particularly helpfull. Also not helpfull is the amount space dedicated to the 108 stars. If you play the game you should have no problem finding at least 106 stars. Gau you have to stumble across in a random battle. Snow is really the only one you will have any difficulty finding. Do yourself a favor check online at gamefaqs. You will find better, more detailed walkthroughs that actually have the info you need for free. Don't waste your money here. If you are dead set on buying this waste of paper at least look at a hard copy first before putting down your money.

Title: The Art and Science of C : A Library Based Introduction to Computer Science
Publisher: Addison Wesley
Authors: Eric S. Roberts

The best introduction I have encountered.

Whether you are new to C, new to programming, or new to computers, this is a great -- simple but not simplified -- book with which to begin your journey into computer science. It is articulate and intelligent, clear and logical, with lucid explanations of the various aspects of the C language and of programming methodology in general, along with a fundamental glimpse of the way computers work on the hardware level and how their physial construction determines software engineering. Highly recommended.
