Microsoft Windows 2000

Another great Microsoft Product! I purchased this kit to learn Microsoft Windows 2000 and enhance my career. This book is intended for people who have prior knowledge of computers and operating systems and is much more technical than most other training manuals. I found this kit to be extremely informative and detailed. There are several books within the kit, each concentrate on a specific area of certification. I personally prefer the Microsoft training kits because they contain evaluation copies of the program that allow you to interact with the software as you're studying. Another reason I prefer this product, is because at this stage of development, Microsoft is in the best position to evaluate the Windows 2000 program and thus help with the training and certification process. I definately reccommend this Training Kit to anyone who is seriously interrested in becomming certified in Microsoft Windows 2000.

Title: Programming C#, 4th Edition
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Jesse Liberty
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Best C# book available

I've been programming .NET since 2001 and have read several books on the various tools and technologies that make up the platform. The one book that I keep in close reach is Jesse's Programming C# 3rd edition. Not only was it a great cover-to-cover read, but as a reference book, it has proven to be essential. The coverage of the C# language is excellent and the CLR and framework coverage is concise. I appreciate that the book does not try to cover too much of the framework and mainly focuses on the language and essential BCL classes. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn (or learn more) about C#. I don't think this is a book for beginner programmers, but if you are coming from another language, like VB.NET ;), this is the book for you.

This is a great start to learning VB programming.

I decided to learn VB on my own, a lot of people have, and so I took a book home from the library and started reading. I was asleep 3 minutes later. But since I had a genuine desire to learn the program I bought VB for Dummies and to my surprise the book is just fantastic. I've become a fan of the ...For Dummies books just because of this book. If you are serious about learning Visual Basic, then there is no better place to start.

Title: Object Oriented Perl
Publisher: Manning Publications
Authors: Damian Conway
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
The best text on the subject

So you've been writing perl for while, you know your way around the camel book, and you even know a lot of the CPAN library. You've written a few CGI pages, and maybe even some mod_perl module.
But you can't figure out the point of some of those perl features. Blind hashes? What are they for? And that 'bless' instruction? And typeglobs- huh? Maybe you're puzzled by that odd syntax some of the CPAN modules use- $class->export($var)? What's that all about?
Relax. You've just stumbled into the world of object-oriented perl programming. And it's not as hard as you may think. Conway does a wonderful job of explaining how OOP works. His examples are perfectly transparant, and perfectly obvious. And he shows how OOP construction can be summed up neatly in three simple rules.
There aren't a lot of prerequisites needed to make good use of this book. If you've got a basic familiarity with perl, and some basic experiece with programming, you're ready to dive in. Conway even gives you a review of the necessary perl essentials you'll need in chapters 2 and 3.
A first-rate book, and one destined to be a perl classic.
