Title: The Art of Computer Virus Research and Defense
Publisher: Addison-Wesley Professional
Authors: Peter Szor
However, I wish for more. I was very hopeful but nevertheless was disappointed by the failure to include example code. This book could best be described as a taxonomy of various characteristics of computer viruses. This book is not intended to inspire the reader to appreciate computer viruses. However, the book did introduce me to a computer game called corewars that has attracted a following of very interesting computer users that appreciate computer viruses .

Title: Professional Stock Trading: System Design and Automation
Publisher: Acme Trader
Authors: Mark R. Conway, Aaron N. Behle
I purchased this book several months ago and was initially overwhelmed by the code in the book, which is written in TradeStation's EasyLanguage. At its most basic level, the code consists of systems and indicators for finding traditional technical analysis patterns such as triple tops and pennants, but the book also presents some advanced concepts for combining and encoding these patterns on a chart, including a system using sentiment measures that is absolutely brilliant. The book contains many chart examples, but I would have been keen to see the specific parameters that were applied to each chart. You must be able to commit many hours experimenting with different combinations of input parameters and the so-called filters such as moving averages, volatility ratios, and other metrics. You cannot just plug the systems into your charts and expect stellar results for every symbol, as Conway & Behle explain in the first chapter; however, I think they present a good methodology for stock selection (I currently use RadarScreen to scan for trading candidates - you have to make sure all of the Acme indicators are enabled for RadarScreen). The chapters on pairs trading and float analysis were interesting because this content is rarely covered in other technical analysis books; however, I found the pairs trading difficult to backtest, so this system is probably the most subjective of all the systems. The authors present an intraday pairs system, but I would have been keen to see a daily system, so I'm trying to convert the code to do this. To summarise, this work has proven to be an extremely valuable book and put money in my pocket after much labour. I think some people will just give up if they think they can just plug a canned system into a chart, but this book proves there are many ways to skin a cat, and thus I highly recommend it.

Title: Degunking Windows
Authors: Joli Ballew, Jeff Duntemann
What an utter blessing it was to find Degunking Windows on the bookshelf; I suddenly love doing windows again. I am not a techy or computer guru. I am one of millions of Americans referred to as "the average home computer user". The thousand page tech books aren't for me, too much jargon to maneuver through. I need something that falls between heady paperweight and picture book. Degunking windows fits the bill. I use my Dell with Windows XP for all of my college course work, as well as for working on my family tree and listening to music online. Another words I put a lot photos, word documents and music files on my pc. I also spend a lot of time online doing research which has just plagued my computer with cookies, email, and Spam. My $2,000.00 computer developed a split personality and became very moody. It was definitely not the agreeable and efficient machine that I fell in love with a year ago. It had grown sluggish, prone to freezing up, and came close to crashing several times. A frightening thought when I have so much information stored there. Something had to be done, and it had to be done fast before either, the machine, or I had a melt down. That's when it happened. I found Degunking Windows and put away the aspirins. Thank you Joli Ballew and Jeff Duntemann for publishing a book that never made me feel stupid and for not calling me a "Dummy". It's a well organized but detailed solution for problems that most of our computers have. It's an invaluable and easy to use resource. I wish my college texts were this organized. I loved the degunking quick reference in the front. I didn't have to meander through the whole text for solutions, the summaries and references got me the information I needed. I was amazed at how easy it was to clean up my PC without spending hundreds of dollars on new software or hardware. Who needs to call tech support? I've got Degunking Windows sitting right next to my computer.
