Title: Routing TCP/IP, Volume II (CCIE Professional Development) Publisher: Cisco Press Authors: Jeff Doyle, Jennifer DeHaven Carroll Rating: 4/5 This is a strong book for learning IP services. The BGP section here is well done also but Halabi's BGP book is by far the best BGP book written. The author understands his audience. He writes with consideration for you the reader as if he WANTS you to get it. So many times you bump into books written by those who go off on tangents. There is not a chapter in this book that isn't worth the read. It's excellent, but I want to point you, again, to the IP Services portion of this book that really will round you out as an engineer and as a CCIE candidate. It is as informative as Volume I, it just covered different and lesser known topics but they are still topics you need to know.

Title: Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming (Programmer to Programmer) Publisher: Wrox Authors: Robert Vieira Rating: 5/5 I just passed Microsoft's "Designing and Implementing Databases with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition" for by 4th and final test to obtain my MCSD certification. This book was almost all I needed. I was glad Viera was comprehensive (1000+ pages); it was needed. This is also a great reference book. If you need to find a specific SQL programming detail in an area that you might not use everday this is the perfect book. I did not want to buy a number of texts for this test and I researched which book to buy very carefully. There are some really poor ones on the market. I assure you this book is far out in front of the rest. Microsoft's Training Kit book on SQL 2000 Database Design and Devlopment was somewhat useful but really almost an outline and incomplete in some areas. "Professional SQL Server 2000 Programming" and the "Transcender" tests are all you need (with maybe a little help from "Books On Line").

Title: The Data Modeling Handbook : A Best-Practice Approach to Building Quality Data Models Publisher: Wiley Authors: Michael C. Reingruber, William W. Gregory Rating: 5/5 This book is not a database book, nor does it try to be that. For anyone who understands the role of logical data modelling, this book will prove to be a valuable addition to your professional bookshelf. It is filled with detailed examples of good & bad models, along with analyses that list the pros & cons of each approach. I'd recommend this to any intelligent professional who is moving into the data architect role, along with experienced modellers who are looking for analyses of data modelling implications.

Title: Secrets and Lies : Digital Security in a Networked World Publisher: Wiley Authors: Bruce Schneier Rating: 4/5 of IT Security. While Bruce Schneider rehashes old ideas discussed in his other IT Sec books, this read is well organized, with lots of practical examples and quite thorough in his extensive coverage of all security measures. The best thing about this book is how the presentation of various IT Security measures makes the reader aware of how imporatnt security policies are and what the important aspects of security management are. This read is definitely beneficial for IT and Security managers. When reading this book I could not help but get annoyed with how verbose this book is. One could easily eliminate various paragraphs and still maintain the integrity of the books message.
