Title: Illustrator CS Killer Tips (Killer Tips)
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Dave Cross
Rating: 3/5
Customer opinion - 3 stars out of 5

I bought this book based on the wonderful customer reviews and was very disappointed. Most of the items can be easily found by anyone exploring the menu bar or palette options. In my opinion such things don't qualify as "hidden secrets," as the cover claims.

I did find one tip that I use (a keyboard command to reset the horizontal scale of type to 100%). It saves me, oh, a minute a month or so. At that rate the book will pay for itself in five years!

Great Book!! Very Useful

I love this book. This Book is a must for anyone who wants to learn how to use Excel to perform Data Analysis and Business modeling. I learned alot from this book. Winston shows us how to use Excel functions and shows us with examples. Plenty of examples and answers provided with the CD. This is a very good "foundational" book. You should also check out the book by Jackson and Staunton "Advanced modeling in finance using Excel and VBA". A book by Sengupta "Financial Modeling using Excel and VBA" is also worth looking at. I own all 3 books

Title: Intermediate Robot Building
Publisher: Apress
Authors: David Cook
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Wow! Lots of details. A great book.

This book is wonderfully different from most robot books in that it doesn't skim through assembly instructions on half a dozen scrap robots that the author thinks you want to imitate. Instead, this author seems to understand that I want to build my own unique robot, so his book concentrates on building tips, electrical modules, and what-to-look-for in certain parts.
For example, the infrared obstacle and wall detector in chapters 11 and 12 is standalone, has complete schematics and part numbers, and is covered in such great detail that it's going to be easy for me to incorporate it into any of my robot ideas. There are plenty of examples of robot power supplies and motor drivers as well.
If you want pretty pictures and brief descriptions of various robots to get your creative juices flowing, surf the internet. But if you want complete details on how to actually build something, get this book!

Book falls apart literally

I found that by lesson nine the pages were falling out of the book. At $45 it should not fall apart that easily.

I thought the end projects were often simplistic. But it does go through several of the new features. I wasn't impressed with the depth of the book.

Also there were a lot of here put this in your picture, and you are done, but no how do I do that piece that you are haing me put in. Or set this at 50% but not why they chose 50% or what other options could be used for the same picture to get different variations.

And I am really annoyed that it is falling apart. Adobe should have done better.
