Title: HTML for the World Wide Web with XHTML and CSS: Visual QuickStart Guide, Fifth Edition
Publisher: Peachpit Press

Quick Start - Yes

I did alot of research on HTML books before choosing this one. I have had many years experiance in sytems administration but have done only a little programming. I have just finished the book in 5 days and found it extremely easy to follow - the layout is clear and the examples are straight forward and to the point. I don't know what a beginner means, but if you are at the point where you want to start writing in HTML, then this is a great place to start. I hope I'm as lucky with Java !

A must-have for anyone doing embedded computer work.

As an embedded operating system designer myself, I found this book to have excellent coverage of nearly all of the important issues and concepts involved, and a good example implementation. I'd reccomend it to anyone in the business, whether you write your own or use his system. Well written!

Extremely Superficial

I didn't find in this study guide, what I've expected (based on my experience with other study guides): (1)Precise explanations of the basic concepts, (2) Quizlets to test the important and hard to understand concepts, (3) Providing solid answers for the quizlets including the Why's and the Why Not's, (4)Concrete discussions of at least a few intricacies in each topic, (5)A thorough set of multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter, (6) A thorough explanation of the right and the wrong answers, (7)A Test Simulator CD, etc. The coverage of the topics and the multiple choice questions is "very sketchy."

Title: Macromedia Flash MX Professional 2004 for Server Geeks
Publisher: New Riders Press
Authors: Nate Weiss
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Excellent resource from beginner to advanced developers

I was one of the Technical Editors for the book and I have to say, without a doubt, that this book has all the information you could ever want in communicating with nearly any server side technology you would need to. The examples are complete, thorough and very well written. Nate took the time to write out expamples that employeed advanced techniques in Flash for those that are curious, but keeps the main focus straight forward and easy to comprehend. This book covers all the basic, fundamental ways to get Flash talking to a server and covers the new ground of 2004MX (Data components, remoting, webservices, Slides, Forms etc) - Great book to have on your shelf!
