Title: An Introduction to Database Systems, Eighth Edition Publisher: Addison Wesley Authors: C.J. Date Rating: 5/5 Date's seminal work is critical to understanding databases - a step mostly forgotten by those who believe every concept can be taught using commercial products with brain-dead examples in under 24 hours. Date teaches the logic and theory that underlie all successful practice. You can probably buy a different book and create a mock database faster, but you will neither understand nor be able to use it well. Do yourself a favor and read this first to understand what a database is; only then can you judge the value of other books.

Title: Essential SNMP Publisher: O'Reilly Authors: Douglas Mauro, Kevin Schmidt, Kevin J. Schmidt Rating: 5/5 I was transferred to Manage a networking group in my company knowing barely the basics about SNMP. This book was a fantastic tool for me! I rely on it heavily. This book has enabled me to take monitoring to the next level. The only problem I seem to have with the book is keeping it on my desk. All the network analysts constantly are using it. Thanks Doug and Kevin for allowing me to excel to a higher level.....

Title: Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications Third Edition Publisher: Microsoft Press Authors: Microsoft Corporation, Microsoft Corporation Rating: 1/5 I agree with "A reader , April 30, 1997." Microsoft doesn't have to share its style guide with the world, but I'm glad they did. Sure, this is not a bible or a book of rules, but it gets you through when you're at a loss for words. The definitions they use reflect standard and common usage. Isn't that the way we all want to write? Clear and concise, no better way to put it.
