Title: Active Directory Cookbook for Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000
Publisher: O'Reilly
Authors: Robbie Allen
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Everything you need and nothing you don't

The format of this book is fantastic - discussions on how to carry out over 320 system administration tasks, with solutions to each situation using the gui, the command line, and through scripting. Examples are in Vbscipt, but Perl versions are available from the author's web site. Note - this book does not teach you how to program! It dives right in, assuming you are a professional Windows admin who has some scripting knowledge. This is one of the attractions of the book for me - I've got 4 books that tell me how to use Vbscript and Perl already! I wanted a book that showed me what to do with that knowledge, and this is that book!

A peer review from across the pond

Harald Johnson is an American photographer with a penchant for long distance swimming. You know, like swimming right round Manhattan island! [shudder]. Maybe that gives us a clue as to why and how he decided to tackle the daunting task of getting together THE master reference work that explains the new digital revolution. He saw that this was a big sea-change subject that needed to be tackled. He has taken the plunge and successfully produced something that will help to alter the way art is seen and made forever. I love this book and thoroughly recommend that you get a copy right now. -- Colin Ruffell, artist and printmaker, Brighton, U.K.

Title: Grokking the GIMP
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Carey Bunks
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Outstanding book for those new to creating graphics

I have read through a lot of this book and it has helped me tremendously in understanding the basic concepts and techniques for creating and manipulating digital images and graphics using the GIMP. Although it does not cover plug-ins in any great detail, it does lay a solid foundation for learning and using them in the future. Aside from that, almost every other conceivable topic is covered.
After I finish reading this book, I am confident that I will be able to read through (and understand) the many GIMP tutorials available online without difficulty. If you are looking for a good introduction to image manipulation and the GIMP, this book does not fail to deliver in any regard.
