Title: Thinking in Java (3rd Edition)
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR
Authors: Bruce Eckel
Rating: 4/5
Customer opinion - 4 stars out of 5
Good for people with not so good programming background!

I wish I'd had this book when I first learned Java...I've looked at almost every Java book there is and own about 20. I can honestly say that this is the best book on the market for learning the language and also one of the best for polishing your skills if you already know the basics. The bottom line: If you program in Java then this book should be sitting by your keyboard.

Title: Definitive XML Schema
Publisher: Prentice Hall PTR
Authors: Priscilla Walmsley
Rating: 2/5
Customer opinion - 2 stars out of 5

This book just happens to be *first*. Just wait until some of the other XML Schema books that are listed as "not yet published" hit the racks. You'll forget about this book rather quickly.
In my opinion, this book serves more as a reference and doesn't really serve-up any good ideas or suggested practices. In addition, one of the most annoying aspects of this book is the SIZE OF THE PRINT. It's so darned big on relatively small pages that when they referred to a figure, I would sometimes have to go backwards or forwards 2 pages. It almost reminds me of writing my college thesis... make the font bigger, spread the text further apart, move in the margins... voila 100 pages...

Degunking Windows

Another great book by Joli Ballew- This book, along with her past efforts is easy to follow and full of hints for both I.T. professionals and home users alike. The 'plain English' approach used in this work makes for an easy read and an easier fix for many of the aliments caused by simply using the internet. A copy of this book along with good anti-virus software may breed new life into your seemingly old and worn out computer.

Title: Sams Teach Yourself SQL in 10 Minutes, Third Edition
Publisher: Sams
Authors: Ben Forta
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
IF you need to learn SQL THEN..

Ok, I would give it 4 1/2 if I could, but can't so I will round down. If you are learning SQL or are going to in a class room, this is a GREAT way to start, even before you start taking lessons. this book will break up learning into "10 minute" lessons, which the first few can be done thourghly in 5. (Possibly because I had already learned it but oh well). Anyway, if you go through every lesson seriously, you will walk away with a GOOD knowledge of SQL, take it from someone who uses SQL in the field.
