Title: MCAD/MCSD Training Guide (70-316): Developing and Implementing Windows-Based Applications with Visual C# and Visual Studio.NET
Publisher: Que
Authors: Amit Kalani
Rating: 5/5
Customer opinion - 5 stars out of 5
Good for learning and exam

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This is a great book for passing the 70-316 exam (I did with this as my only book.) and for learning C#, if you already have experience with a language like Java or C. At first I was not sure about the book because it looked weak on in-depth-ness of examples. However, I found that it took me about 180 hours of study time to get through this book and the examples were great.
There are a few mistakes in this book (maybe four I can think of), but they are minor. As usual, Que Publishing and Mr. Kalani did a great job.
I am definitely going to use the same series for the 70-315 and 70-320 exams.

Comprehensive Guide to Regular Expressions

Most computer programmers have heard of regular expressions, discussed in hushed tones and conjuring images of Unix gurus and their incomprehensible commands and godlike mastery of their systems, yet few actually know enough about regular expressions or how they work to do more than a simple word match using one, if that.
This book covers regular expressions from top to bottom in great and exhaustive detail, including the hows and whys of performance and supported features between the different engines that process them. Though geared mainly toward Perl, the examples and text will apply to nearly any system that provides support, from PHP to ASP to Python.
The text is fairly dense and is not exactly geared toward the novice programmer, though. I've had classes in Finite State Machines and still had to really apply my grey matter in a few spots to understand everything being discussed. However, the understanding the reader gains upon completion of the text is invaluable and will expand one's programming potential exponentially.
The one real lack of the book is a good overview and quick-reference card, but on the whole, the book is a good selection from the O'Reilly library and well worth the read of any serious programmer.

What a great book

This is a great book all the examples are alot more interesting when compared to the many other programming books I have read, this book is very old and is still out selling most of the newest programming books for C, and C++. If you wanted to learn C who is better to teach you it than Dennis Ritchie himself one of the creators of the language.

This book is bad for you

This book is beyond bad; it is bad for you. This author neither understands the technology she is writing about nor the how to write about tecnology. The books is filled with misinformation, incorrect usage of terms and ambiguous statements.
The book is, however, simple to read. The author really "dumbs down" the explanations. As a result, the book has received some positive ratings. But beware! Even the dumbed down explanations are frequently wrong.
This book can do more damage than good. Don't read it.
